All my best,

Howard
I have moved this Blog in its entirety to my new web site, http://www.fightingparkinsonsdrugfree.com/. I am no longer fighting Parkinson’s drug free because on June 12, 2010, I became symptom free. I was diagnosed in November of 2009, and my earliest symptoms were traced back to February of 2009. I fought Parkinson's without medications by taking a holistic approach with proper diet, exercise, attitude, and love from my family and friends.
Howard:
ReplyDeleteI have been reading your blog with great interest – it is very informative and inspiring. I am working on recovering from Parkinson’s, and have a few questions that I hope you will respond to:
1. During your battle, did you have times when you forgot about Parkinson’s by being distracted – say playing with a child, watching a movie, etc. Did you value these times or did you try to stay focused 100% of the time on the mantra and process: “I have the power to heal myself?”
2. Have you used visualization techniques during your recovery, say imagining the brain creating new dopamine producing cells, or your dopamine flooding into muscle cells to enable/prompt movement? Please describe, if so.
3. What kinds of and how much exercise and/or flexibility exercising have you done?
Thanks!
Bill
Hi Bill,
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading my blog and for your kind words. You ask some very good questions, and here are my answers:
1. Yes. Being distracted by time with my family was a wonderful thing. Whether it was watching TV or going to a movie, playing a game or working on the daily crossword puzzle, all of these were great distractions from the disease and I believe were beneficial in my recovery. I feel that "I have the power to heal myself" includes doing as many of the fun things in life as possible to remind us of the many reasons for getting better.
2. Yes. Once I learned from my doctor about the left side of my body not working in conjunction with the right side of my body, I did visualization of the right side of my brain working the right side of my body and the left side of my brain working the left side of my body. For more details, see my blog entry http://fightingparkinsonsdrugfree.blogspot.com/2010/04/post-doctor-visit-adjustment-in.html. Also, yes, regarding dopamine. In a meditation, I thanked my adrenaline for all the years it took care of me, and I thanked my dopamine for staying out of the way. I then told them that it was time for the adrenaline to ease up and the dopamine to flow, and that they and my Higher Power would have to determine the correct amounts of each. I visualized dopamine exploding out of the top of my brain like a fountain and then flowing down and through my body. For more on adrenaline and dopamine, see my blog entries, http://fightingparkinsonsdrugfree.blogspot.com/2010/05/fighting-parkinsons-adrenaline-and.html and http://fightingparkinsonsdrugfree.blogspot.com/2010/06/fighting-parkinsons-adrenaline-and.html.
3. I did about an hour of Qigong in the morning, 30-40 minutes in the afternoon, and 20-30 minutes in the evening. Primarily, the Qigong I did was for the kidney and liver. One particularly effective exercise was for clearing liver wind. It is described in detail at http://fightingparkinsonsdrugfree.blogspot.com/2010/04/clearing-liver-wind-breakthrough.html.
I wish you well with your recovery. I am hopeful that my answers will help you and others. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
