dear Howard,
ReplyDeletewhat about alcohol and Parkinson ?
warm regards, Martin
Hello Martin,
ReplyDeleteThis is an important question. This is a judgment call for each individual. I did not partake in alcohol while recovering from Parkinson's. Here was my reasoning:
1. I was focused on cleansing and strengthening my liver, and I felt alcohol would have made my liver have to work harder. I felt I owed it to my liver not to engage in behavior that would be counter-productive to liver cleansing.
2. I had a hard enough time walking and keeping my balance as it was. I often felt that people already looked at me like I had too many drinks when it was just the way I walked with Parkinson's and no alcohol.
3. Alcohol can numb or impede awareness, including pain. I felt I needed to feel the pain of the disease so I could address the issues causing the pain, and also, I viewed pain as my body telling me what I should not be doing, and I did not want to interfere with those messages from my body.
After recovery, I have enjoyed the occasional alcoholic drink, and I do not feel it has hurt my continued recovery at all.
Best regards,
Howard
